![]() Monchi makes things as excruciating for her readers as for her characters. When Chiga, the cool guy, completely lost his composure, I thought I'd die. Monchi does embarrassment so very well, and with such humour poor Kokusai's mortification, as the space cadet brought low by lust, had me in fits. I came to this via the first manga I ever read, which was also by Monchi-sensei, so I have to admit to bias, but I adore this series. As much as I love Chiga and Kokusai, I can't stop thinking about Yamashiro and Kawawa. Even if they didn't end up together, I need some sort of better conclusion, which is hopefully provided in a later volume, whenever it is scanlated. Simply because you can tell they love each other very much, in one way or another. But at the same time, in the safety of fiction, I'm rooting for them as a couple. To be perfectly honest, I know that Yamashiro is not quite right in the head. At the end of volume 4 I felt bitter and disappointed. I can't take this one juxtaposed against Chiga's and Kokusai's. So because of this, he breaks Chiga's heart, and I wanted to strangle him (but I still love him). ![]() Chiga told him he loved him several times and even asked Kokusai to date him, but it was meaningless to Kokusai because he was so swept away in the delusion that Chiga loved somebody else! This was a delusion that was founded on one snippet of one conversation he overheard, that anyone else would have interpreted differently. Secondly, Kokusai's obliviousness is somewhat maddening. You are thrown into situations or forced to interact with new characters, and you don't receive a background story until later. ![]() So where do I find flaw? To begin with, I felt thrown into the story too quickly, and this happens several times. There are parts of this manga that made me laugh and others which made me tear up. Chiga is one of my favorite semes ever because he's kind and just as flustered over Kokusai as Kokusai is over him. I love the art, I love the characters, and their interactions are adorable and sexy. Having read 4 volumes now (I am only fluent in English), I think I can rate this manga highly, but I can't give it a 10.
